Grouping books into a box set: Book → New Box Set and refreshing it from its books
A box set puts two or more of your Pendrilo books into one book. Each book becomes a volume, such as Book One and Book Two, so readers can buy the series together in one file.
Making a box set
Save the book you have open before you start. Then:
- 1. Choose Book → New Box Set….
- 2. Choose two or more Pendrilo books.
- 3. Save the box set as a project.
The box set is its own project. Your original books stay as they are, and the box set holds its own copy of their text.
How the volumes are arranged
Pendrilo puts the books in order of their series number, then by title. Each book becomes a volume, and its pictures come with it.
Chapter and part numbers start again at the beginning of each volume. Chapter One of Book Two is numbered from one, not from where Book One stopped.
Front and back matter
Each book's own front and back matter stays with that book. It doesn't carry into the box set. The box set has its own front and back matter, which you write and edit inside the box set project.
Plan the box set's title page, copyright page and any "Also by" or "About the Author" pages there, rather than expecting them to come from the individual books.
Bringing in changes from a book
When you edit one of the books after making the box set, the box set doesn't update by itself. To bring in the book's latest text:
- 1. Open the box set project.
- 2. Choose Book → Refresh Box Set From Books.
Pendrilo brings in the latest text from each book. The box set's own pages, such as its front and back matter, are kept, so anything you wrote there stays.
Refresh the box set each time you finish changes to one of its books, and check the result in the page preview before you generate the final files.
Adding a book to an existing box set
The chapter list's + Add menu includes a Book (in a box set) option. Use it when you're working inside the box set and want to place a book there as a volume.
Related steps
Once the box set is complete, make its print and ebook files as you would for any book. Choose Generate Book in the top bar, or Book → Generate Book….
